One out of these doctors one was elected as president and the second doctor as the secretary of the society. Mr. Heed along with his wife devoted their whole life in accomplishment of the project of heed foundation. They had no children and that’s why did not find any difficulty in doing this noble deed. Both of them took guidance from Dr. Vail and successfully laid the foundation and made its foundation strong on May 29, 1946.

Few members of Heed Foundation who were the Fellows In October of 1958 met in Chicago during the annual American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting for the purpose of forming an organization known as the Society of Heed Fellows. All of these people belonged to an organization which was new according to the period of there. It’s first Heed Fellow appointed in 1947 after one year gap. Annual meetings of the Society were straight to give confidence social communiqué amongst former Heed fellows. The fellows appointed by the Society are chosen with the consent of Society of Heed Fellows Fellow and Heed Fellow. Originally appointment in 1989, about 40 fellowships were awarded and for that purpose an amount of funding of $430,000 was prearranged.

The elected officers served this society from 1965 to 1975, Dr. Winter being president and Dr. William Spencer as secretary of the society. The elected officers served this society from 1975 to 1984, Dr. Matthew Davis being president and Dr. Froncie Gutman served as secretary.

Then in 1984, the Society became a useful, disciplined and benevolent community foundation. Power of the Society is provided by five trustees who serve up an utmost of two five year terms. The Executive-Secretary, whose everyday jobs are as the managerial officer, is agreed by the Trustees.

In recognition of this juncture, the trustees of the society initiated the 50th Anniversary festivity association with lot of curiosity. From beginning to end the sympathy of our members, the association raised more than $60,000 in this association. These levies are being used to continue the Society’s hold of postgraduate companionship education and will assist to be accountable for the legacy of Mr. Thomas Heed and the Heed Foundation.

So is true for the existence of Heed Foundation. Yes, it is quite a story to tell you all. The foundation was formed after the founders suffered from some very serious eye diseases.

Ruth and Thomas heed were the actual founders of the foundation for those who suffered from any kind of eye diseases. The foundation of this organization was laid upon in 1945 and it has a really interesting story behind it. Thomas heed was absolutely unconcerned to the field of ophthalmology until he was struck by fate. He was actually a very successful businessman at that time. Heed Foundation came into existence after the suffering of this very young businessman. Thomas was initially into the business of railroads. He then started other things in his business. And after his diseases, he started to think about forming a platform for those who suffer from eye diseases.

Thomas suffered from iris inflammation in a very severe form. He was just 19 years old at that time and had to spend three hard months in darkened room. He was suffering from blindness and was fighting with the disease for a long time. It was a really hard time for him and made him think about many others who suffer from similar or even severe forms of eye diseases by any means. And for those, who cannot afford too much of the charged on the treatments and other related things. Heed Foundation had its birth because of a suffering and let other people to be cured.

It was a misfortune for the family. Some years later, Thomas’s wife also suffered from an eye disease. She was struck by retinal detachment at that time. Her problem was however solved by the doctors. But it was felt that the best training had to be provided to the post graduate doctors so that the surgeries could be done more efficiently and in a fine way. New techniques for teaching the surgeries must be introduced and new research in the field of ophthalmology was to be encouraged. It was necessary to provide a place for the fulfillment of these objectives.  Thomas heed decided to organize a foundation with the name Heed Foundation the purpose of which was to train the young doctors for eye surgery. The foundation is now working since 1945 and it has done a tremendous job in the field of ophthalmology.
